Peter managed to fend off some extremely talented competition from worldwide artists including Payton Pierce, Kim Carson & Buckshot Willie (USA) and Alamo Country Band (Mexico).
“Dad (Lonnie Donegan) gave me many great nuggets of advice but one has always stuck with me more than any” Peter Says, “it was……..If you’re going to have any chance to make it in this industry, you’ve got to write your own songs….and believe me, I have taken that advice to heart and it’s finally paying off”.
This is the first time Peter has received any recognition in his chosen music field – Country - and to win two awards means Peter has finally started to establish himself as an artist in his own right.
The song chosen as Original Song of the Year, ‘Thank You Texas’, was written by Peter and two wonderful Texan co-writers, Jerry Serrano and NBC The Voice’s Madi Davis. The song was written and arranged at The Buddy Holly Song Writing Retreat, Lubbock TX in 2019 and they first performed this song together at Buddy Holly’s old high school, Lubbock High.
This song climbed the charts rapidly and stayed at #1 on the HotDiscTop40 charts for over 4 weeks as well as #11 on the UnitedDJ Heritage Charts for 6 weeks, ahead of releases from Paul Simon & Dion and The Pretenders.
Helping Peter make a huge impact at the Texas Sounds Festival was his band of talented and tight musicians – Philip Mann (Bass), Wayne Lee (Keyboards), Mikey Ciancio (Drums) and Tom Wright (Lead Guitar)
Peter is blasting his way through the new decade, determined not to let any obstacles stop him from moving forward with his music.
